Washington, D.C. — Correct The Record today launched the Trump Lies Campaign—a new effort that will hold Donald Trump accountable for the lies and falsehoods he tells the American people. From now until November, Correct The Record will closely monitor and expose Trump’s false claims and ensure that the American people know the truth about the presumptive Republican nominee’s history of deceit and fraud.
“Donald Trump is a con man and pathological liar who is trying to pull a fast one on the American people in his quest for power,” said Correct The Record Founder David Brock. “Lying is part and parcel of who Donald Trump is. He’s lied about anything and everything his entire adult life. From now until November, Correct The Record will expose the depth, breadth, substance and consequences of Trump’s lies to the American people.”
The Trump Lies Campaign will track Trump’s false statements and debunk his claims on a new website, TrumpLies.com. The site serves as a database of Trump’s lies on the campaign trail that have received a rating of “Four Pinocchios” by The Washington Post or “Pants on Fire” by PolitiFact—the worst possible ratings for a false claim.
As part of the campaign launch, Correct The Record today also released a new 39-minute video of Trump lying on the campaign trail, set to the entirety of Mozart’s Symphony No. 41—the composer’s longest symphony. The video, which is introduced by Brock, features footage of Trump saying and repeating lies that The Washington Post has given “Four Pinocchios.” According to an analysis by Correct The Record, Trump has often repeated false claims even after they have been debunked—leading him to accrue at least 1,000 Pinocchios since launching his presidential campaign.
From now until November, the Trump Lies Campaign will deconstruct Trump’s claim that he is a “straight-shooter” and ensure that voters are aware of Trump’s record of fraud. Every Friday, Correct The Record will release a weekly roundup highlighting Trump’s new lies, the false claims he has repeated, and the latest reports from The Washington Post and Politifact debunking his statements. And during the Republican National Convention, Correct The Record will document in real time Trump’s false claims—and hold accountable Republicans who repeat or expand upon his falsehoods.
The volume and character of Trump’s deceits and false claims are unprecedented in American political history. In the years before declaring his presidential candidacy, Trump claimed that President Obama was not born in the United States and had spent millions to conceal his birth certificate. In the past year alone, Trump has inaccurately claimed the unemployment rate is 23 percent, pushed a rumor that Senator Ted Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and incorrectly stated at least five times that Russian President Vladimir Putin has called him a “genius.” Despite the fact that these statements—and dozens of others—have been thoroughly debunked by fact checkers, Trump has continued to repeat these lies—and dozens of other falsehoods—during his presidential campaign.
