In a stirring night, some of  our country’s most admired leaders — from Gabby Giffords to Michael Bloomberg — made clear that Hillary Clinton has the strength, leadership and qualifications to take on our country’s greatest challenges and keep America safe. As President Obama said during his moving tribute to Hillary and our democratic system: “There has never been a man or a woman, not me, not Bill, not nobody, more qualified than Hillary to serve as President of the United States.”

So c’mon America. We’re stronger together. It’s time to make history.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:

    • Striking that, in span of 3 days, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama have delivered some of the best speeches of their public lives

      — Mark Murray (@mmurraypolitics) July 28, 2016

    • To every Republican who has described Obama as a divisive, America-hating man: behold your nominee & recognize your error.— Conor Friedersdorf (@conor64) July 28, 2016
    • Pretty amazing to see the first black president onstage with the person who may be the first female president

      — Amanda Terkel (@aterkel) July 28, 2016

    • He’s giving a stirring, positive vision of America working toward the future, “every background every faith,” “stronger together.”— emily nussbaum (@emilynussbaum) July 28, 2016
    • Obama’s argument: Clinton is tested, fit, ready, respected and fair, while Trump is a dangerous fraud. #DemsInPhilly

      — Philip Rucker (@PhilipRucker) July 28, 2016

SENATOR TIM KAINE:

VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN:

    • Joe Biden is an incredibly real person. One of the most genuine politicians in modern history. #DNCinPHL
      — Eric Geller (@ericgeller) July 28, 2016
    • Everyone, just everyone, loves Joe.
      — Annie Linskey (@AnnieLinskey) July 28, 2016

MICHAEL BLOOMBERG:

    • Bloomberg’s blistering take down is definitely going to get under Trump’s skin. Tweet storm expected.
      — (((Pamela Kruger))) (@PamKrugerwriter) July 28, 2016
    • Just-below-subtext of Bloombito:
The Republicans have nominated an unstable con man. AND THEY KNOW IT. When will Vichy facade crack?
      — James Fallows (@JamesFallows) July 28, 2016
    • Shorter Mike Bloomberg: I know business, and I’m a billionaire. And Mr. Trump, you’re no billionaire businessman.
      — Matt Viser (@mviser) July 28, 2016

CHRISTINE LEINONEN:

    • Orlando victim’s mother was so powerful for saner gun policy – ex state trooper, son’s paternal grandparents met in Japanese-internment camp
      — Philip Gourevitch (@PGourevitch) July 27, 2016

FORMER REP. GABBY GIFFORDS

FORMER CIA DIRECTOR LEON PANETTA

    • Leon Panetta could be one of the best surrogates to break through to undecided voters.
      — Susan Davis (@DaviSusan) July 28, 2016

THE MESSAGE: COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL

    • “There’s finally someone who can change things.” another note of change for Hillary Clinton, from daughter of slain Sandy Hook principal.
      — Patricia Murphy (@1PatriciaMurphy) July 28, 2016
    • Why is the DNC focused on guns? Because 90% of Americans oppose the Republican Party’s position on background checks. #DemsInPhilly
      — Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) July 28, 2016

THE MESSAGE: NATIONAL SECURITY

“SOLEMN RESPONSIBILITY” VIDEO

    • Best video of the convention season.
      — Jon Ralston (@RalstonReports) July 28, 2016
    • Who would have predicted four years ago that a video clip of Mitt Romney would air at the DNC as a validation against the R nominee?
      — James Hohmann (@jameshohmann) July 28, 2016
    • Timing of this Trump super-risky-on-security video at Dem convention seems kind of well-timed given Trump’s news conference this morning.

Kaine “brings down the house” in first event as Clinton’s VP http://correctrecord.org/kaine-brings-down-the-house-in-first-event-as-clintons-vp/ Sat, 23 Jul 2016 21:55:21 +0000 http://correct2016.wpengine.com/?p=3889 Today, Hillary Clinton and Virginia Senator Tim Kaine appeared together for the first time in Miami, Florida. The event — and Clinton’s selection of Kaine as her running mate — has drawn praise from veteran journalists. Yahoo senior editor Amy Sullivan called it a “slam-dunk roll-out.” The Daily Beast’s Michael Tomasky enthusiastically noted, “Holy crap. He killed it. I’m not trying to spin you. I’m sitting here in shock. Shock. Tim Kaine was unbelievable.” The Atlantic’s James Fallows tweeted that “I cannot think of *any* national-level debut that has gone better for figure getting first worldwide exposure than this is going for Kaine.” The entire rollout stood in stark contrast to Donald Trump’s disastrous and chaotic selection of Indiana Governor Mike Pence. As former Bush staffer Matthew Dowd tweeted, the first Clinton-Kaine event “shows the difference between a real professional organization and not. Well done.”

    • Very interesting to watch Fox right now.
They are *all* saying Kaine did very well, and voters want to hear some hope.— James Fallows (@JamesFallows) July 23, 2016
    • I cannot think of *any* national-level debut that has gone better for figure getting first worldwide exposure than this is going for Kaine

      — James Fallows (@JamesFallows) July 23, 2016

    • The fact that at Kaine’s slam-dunk roll-out, the crowd responds to his speech by chanting “Hillary! Hillary!” says she chose the right guy.— Amy Sullivan (@sullivanamy) July 23, 2016
    • @timkaine just demonstrated what confounded Va. GOP for years. He mixes biting partisan rhetoric with an “Aw shucks” attitude that disarms.

      — Michael D. Shear (@shearm) July 23, 2016

    • Am just watching Tim Kaine’s debut now: Trump will soon go from 7 percent Latino support to minus 25.— Jeffrey Goldberg (@JeffreyGoldberg) July 23, 2016
