Bad Week – Correct The Record http://correctrecord.org Correct The Record is a strategic research and rapid response team designed to defend Hillary Clinton from baseless attacks. Tue, 08 Nov 2016 06:06:00 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.6.1 CTR Statement On Donald Trump’s West Palm Beach Rally http://correctrecord.org/ctr-statement-on-donald-trumps-west-palm-beach-rally/ Thu, 13 Oct 2016 18:07:09 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4399 Washington, D.C.–Today, Correct The Record Communications Director Elizabeth Shappell released the following statement on Donald Trump’s rally in West Palm Beach, Florida:

“Donald Trump has officially gone full Breitbart. This was Trump’s most authoritarian and disturbing speech of his entire campaign—and demonstrated just how much his campaign has given up on winning over any new voters. In West Palm Beach, Trump monstrously called on his supporters to dig up dirt and go after the women who have accused him of sexual assault. He misogynistically denied attacking a People Magazine reporter by invoking her looks. Let’s not forget, Trump has literally bragged about kissing and groping women without their consent. Then, in his most blatantly dictatorial rhetoric yet, Trump once called for Hillary Clinton to be jailed and said a dark global conspiracy of bankers and the media is aligned against him. As his campaign melts down, Trump is retreating deeper and deeper into his dark, misogynistic, mendacious and perverse alternate reality.”

Trump's "worst week" got worse http://correctrecord.org/after-trumps-worst-week-things-actually-got-worse/ Mon, 03 Oct 2016 14:32:20 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4362 Think Donald Trump has hit rock bottom? Think again.

After having what may have been the “worst week in modern presidential campaign history,” things have only gotten worse for Donald Trump. Two days after The New York Times published a devastating exposé on the fact that Trump lost $916 million in 1995 and could have avoided paying income taxes for almost two decades, a new report continued to expose Trump’s despicable record in business.

In a shocking story published this morning, The Associated Press revealed that Trump repeatedly “rated female contestants by the size of their breasts and talked about which ones he’d like to have sex with” on the set of The Apprentice. With 36 days until Election Day, the Trump campaign is in a downward spiral. As noted on CNN this morning, Trump’s latest round of controversies “threaten to drain the Republican nominee of something he can’t afford: time.”

The Donald’s disastrous days in headlines http://correctrecord.org/the-donalds-disastrous-days-in-headlines/ Wed, 14 Sep 2016 14:32:33 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4256 It’s been a disastrous few days for The Donald. Just yesterday, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced there is an inquiry into the Trump Foundation, which earlier this week was exposed working allegedly as Trump’s personal slush fund. The childcare plan Trump introduced last night has been widely panned as  regressive, half-baked and even sexist—a political stunt designed to cover up his years of misogynist statements. And Trump continues to come under scrutiny for telling a number of deeply insensitive (and narcissistic) lies about the 9/11 attacks.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

New reports have raised troubling questions about whether Trump is compromised by his business interests. Yesterday, McClatchy and The Huffington Post reported that Trump—who styles himself as the ultimate negotiator—begged and complained to the Obama administration for help in a trade dispute with China. And early this morning, Newsweek published a devastating exposé revealing that the Trump Organization has highly suspect ties to governments and political groups across the globe—raising serious questions about whether Trump is bought and paid for by foreign interests and outlining the major conflicts of interest he would have if elected president.

Never before has an American candidate for president had so many financial ties with American allies and enemies, and never before has a business posed such a threat to the United States. If Donald Trump wins this election and his company is not immediately shut down or forever severed from the Trump family, the foreign policy of the United States of America could well be for sale.

Don’t fall for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s smirking dismissal of his illegal campaign contribution to a political action committee supporting Florida’s attorney general. His campaign calls it a ‘clerical error,’ but it was an illegal contribution, and he knows it.

Not only was Trump’s boast despicable, coming as it did just hours after nearly 3,000 people lost their lives ― it was also a lie, according to architectural reports reviewed by The Huffington Post.

Not only has Trump offered no plan to tackle mental healthcare, he’s presented the barest of outlines for most of his governing agenda, even as he now accuses Clinton of “running a policy-free campaign,” as he claimed at an Iowa rally Tuesday.

The Trump campaign is in chaos (again). Earlier this week, Trump appointed widely-loathed Breitbart executive and alt-right poster boy Steve Bannon as his campaign’s CEO. For years, Bannon has peddled anti-semitism and white nationalism—and his promotion has been widely condemned. And just this morning, Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort was forced to resign after a series of devastating stories came out about his relationship with pro-Kremlin politicians in Ukraine. Below is a statement from Correct The Record President Brad Woodhouse on Trump’s terrible week:

“This week proved that Donald Trump is running one of the most self-destructive, dysfunctional presidential campaigns in modern American history. Trump is desperately clinging to a teleprompter to hide the fact that his campaign has aligned itself with sinister forces both here and abroad. With the dismissal of Paul Manafort and the addition of Steve Bannon, the questions only grow about Trump’s ties to both the Kremlin and the white nationalist alt-right. Three teleprompter speeches cannot erase the fact that the Trump train is going completely off the rails.”

This week was a turning point in the presidential campaign. Donald Trump showed that he has the temperament and basic decency to lead our nation and be America’s Commander-in-Chief. I truly admire Trump’s respect for Gold Star families, his reverence for the American Constitution and the inclusive campaign he’s running. And Trump never lies—how refreshing. Americans across the country—including in key battleground states—are flocking to his vision of a greater America. I would also like to personally applaud Mike Pence, House Speaker Paul Ryan and RNC Chair Reince Priebus for uniting their party around Mr. Trump’s vision and enabling his historic candidacy.

Brad Woodhouse, President of Correct The Record

Mr. Trump, that’s how you do #sarcasm.

What pivot? http://correctrecord.org/what-pivot/ Wed, 03 Aug 2016 15:11:46 +0000 http://correct2016.wpengine.com/?p=3844

This morning, Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort promised that Trump would be on message during his rally today and that “the campaign is focused and the campaign is moving forward in a positive way.”

Paul Manafort, call your office.

Today’s rally in Florida was wildly off message—even by Trumpian standards. The Republican nominee challenged President Obama to a game of golf (for the presidency), re-litigated his feud with Megyn Kelly and once again called Senator Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.”  As The Hill’s Cate Martel tweeted, this supposed pivot felt “even more like a therapy session than usual.”

“Donald Trump’s bad 72 hours” http://correctrecord.org/donald-trumps-bad-72-hours/ Tue, 02 Aug 2016 16:13:00 +0000 http://correct2016.wpengine.com/?p=3854 Today was Donald Trump’s “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.” This morning, New York Congressman Richard Hanna became the first Republican Member of Congress to endorse Hillary Clinton. Later in the day, Trump kicked out a baby from his rally. And in the afternoon,  he reignited the civil war within the Republican Party by failing to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan and Arizona Senator John McCain.

But don’t take our word for it. The headlines speak for themselves:

  • CNN: “Donald Trump’s bad 72 hours”
  • WSJ: “Donald Trump’s Self-Created Pothole”
  • The Hill: “Worried GOP tells Trump: Get on message”
  • USA Today: “Many things are going badly for Donald Trump”
  • Slate: “Donald Trump vs. a Literal Baby”
  • CNN: “First on CNN: Ex-top Christie aide backs Clinton over Trump”
  • POLITICO: “Few Republicans want to campaign with Trump”
  • Daily Caller: “Trump’s Chances Of Winning The Election Just Plummeted, Says Statistician”
  • Washington Post: “Donald Trump just reminded America that the only loyalty he respects is to Donald Trump”
  • NPR: “WATCH: Donald Trump Kicks Baby Out Of Rally”
  • The Hill: “The ‘Trump Train’ flies off the rails”
  • Daily Dot: “Donald Trump and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day”

Trump’s ridiculous rollout http://correctrecord.org/trumps-ridiculous-rollout/ Fri, 15 Jul 2016 20:12:17 +0000 http://correct2016.wpengine.com/?p=3874 It’s the most important decision any presidential candidate has to make—and Trump completely botched it. After treating the vice presidential search process like The Bachelor, Trump finally seemed to settle on Indiana Governor Mike Pence–RFRA enthusiast and hater of Planned Parenthood, as the one who should be his Vice President. Or did he? Today, CNN and others reported that in frenzied midnight calls last night, Trump tried to drop Pence from the ticket. It seems that campaign advisors walked Trump back from the ledge, but the damage is done. This rollout of Trump’s VP pick has been an unprecedented mess, and an awful first impression for his general election campaign.

And the professionals let him know.
