Love Trumps Hate http://correctrecord.org/love-trumps-hate/ Tue, 08 Nov 2016 03:03:05 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4526 Tonight was peak 2016. While Donald Trump held a terrifying and insult-filled rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton was joined by President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, President Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to preach love, unity and policies for a better and brighter future.

In contrast, Trump was his typical self. He once again called Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas” and offensively remarked that “the inner cities, in so many cases, are like living in hell.” Trump is ending this campaign exactly where he started: with hateful rhetoric and bigoted lies. Over the course of the past sixteen months, he has made a mockery of our democracy and has used his candidacy to instill fear in the hearts of voters. He is unqualified for the presidency and his enablers, including Kelly Ayotte, are unfit to represent this nation.

Hillary Clinton knows we are stronger together. Tomorrow, Americans can show once and for all that love trumps hate.

LOVE

HATE

Donald Trump: “The inner cities, in so many cases, are like living in hell. Crime is rampant, horrible. You can’t walk to a store without getting shot. Schools are terrible, as bad as it gets. And there are no jobs.” [Manchester, NH, 11/7/16]

2016 in a Nutshell: At Scranton Rally, Trump’s Closing Argument (Again) is Against Jay-Z and Beyoncé http://correctrecord.org/2016-in-a-nutshell-at-scranton-rally-trumps-closing-argument-again-is-against-jay-z-and-beyonce/ Tue, 08 Nov 2016 00:06:36 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4524 Donald Trump didn’t disappoint in his third-to-last rally of the 2016 presidential campaign. While supposedly addressing “Democratic voters,” Trump attacked the media, lied about being Michigan’s Man of the Year (in Pennsylvania), and continued to trash talk Jay-Z and Beyoncé. And with the Republican nominee veering increasingly off message, his supporters’ behavior has been increasingly toxic, with insults being hurled left and right–demonstrating how dark, dangerous and offensive his candidacy has become.

ATTACKING THE MEDIA: Trump, after crowd chants “CNN Sucks!”: “They are so dishonest. You can’t even read articles in certain papers anymore. New York Times is a total lie. You can’t — I mean, you cannot it’s so false. Nothing to do with me. I’m just telling you, such lies. Such lies. Such fabrication. Such made up stories. The Times is going out of business pretty soon.” [Scranton, PA, 11/7/16]

Beth Reinhard @bethreinhard: Really rowdy crowd in Scranton, PA chanting “CNN sucks.” Trump says “Such lies, such lies.” Says NYT is going out of biz. [11/7/16 6:24 p.m. ET]

Ali Vitali @alivitali What will life be when I dont have people scream at me multiple times per day at close range that I’m bad at my job and I suck? [11/7/16 6:24 p.m. ET]

Rosie Gray @RosieGray Here’s the deafening “CNN sucks” chant in Scranton earlier, from the perspective of the media pen [VIDEO] [11/7/16 6:28 p.m. ET]

McKay Coppins @mckaycoppins Trump has returned to the “dishonest media” line 3-4 times so far in this speech. Seems incredibly agitated, much more so than last rally. [11/7/16 6:31 p.m. ET]

MAN OF THE YEAR? Trump: “I was ‘Man of the Year’ in Michigan a couple of years ago.” [Scranton, PA, 11/7/16]

Huffington Post: Did Donald Trump Just Make Up An Award He Won?
He says he was named “Man of the Year” in Michigan five years ago. But there’s no evidence of this.

JAY-Z RANTS CONTINUE: Trump: “She can’t get anybody to go to her rallies, so she gets Jay-Z. He uses the worst language I have ever heard. And by the time he’s finished, what’s happened – what happens, he and Beyonce, right? By that time, most of the people have left.” [Scranton, PA, 11/7/16]

Ben Jacobs ‏@Bencjacobs: Super loud boos for Jay-Z at the Trump rally in Scranton [11/7/2016 6:27 PM ET]

Rebecca Sinderbrand @sinderbrand update! in Scranton, Trump says Jay Z’s performance featured “the worst language I have ever heard.” Ever. [11/7/16 6:30 p.m. ET]

PolitiFact: In closing argument, Donald Trump wrongly says he outdraws Beyonce, Jay Z

Our ruling

Trump said, “Beyonce and Jay Z, I like them, I like them. And you know what they do? I get bigger crowds than they do. It’s true. I get far bigger crowds.”

There is no question Trump is fixated on the size of his crowds.

And there is no question, this claim — as it relates to Beyonce and Jay Z — is incorrect.

We rate it False.

CONTINUED TO SPREAD A HATEFUL MESSAGE: Trump’s vitriol and targeted attacks for a few “favorites” has been present throughout the election, and it continued the night before Election Day. This behavior has driven his supporters to respond accordingly.

Sean Sullivan @WaPoSean: Trump’s Scranton rally the rowdiest of the day by far. “She’s a witch!” and “She’s a demon!” could be heard as Trump lambasted Clinton. [11/7/16 6:36 p.m. ET]

Ben Jacobs @Bencjacobs Shouts of “she’s stupid” now about Hillary Clinton from crowd [11/7/16 6:42 p.m. ET]

Ali Vitali @alivitali While Trump says Bernie sold his soul to the devil (a usual line) the crowd shouts that Sanders is a “SELLOUT” [11/7/16 6:38 p.m. ET]

Kevin Cirilli @kevcirilli SCRANTON —

Trump: “She should not be allowed to run.”

Crowd: “Lock her up.”

Man: “She’s a witch! Get her, Don!” [11/7/16 6:30 p.m. ET]

CTR Statement on Donald Trump’s Raleigh, NC Rally http://correctrecord.org/ctr-statement-on-donald-trump-raleigh-rally/ Mon, 07 Nov 2016 20:37:54 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4523 Washington, D.C.—Today, Correct The Record President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement on Donald Trump’s rally in Raleigh, North Carolina:

“Donald Trump just finished a rally in North Carolina, where his party has attempted to suppress the rights of thousands of voters. The Republican Party is proud of their efforts to make it harder to vote in the state: limiting early voting, avoiding the placement of voting sites from college campuses and cancelling the registration of thousands of voters, with an outsize effect on African American voters. These efforts by North Carolina Republicans reflect the racist and un-American tone of Donald Trump’s campaign, and it’s happening in the very place where Americans should be able to freely exercise their rights without intimidation—the voting booth.”

NYT Opinion: Five Ways Republicans Are Threatening Voting Rights

In North Carolina, where a court in July struck down a 2013 voter ID law whose restrictions took aim at black voters, Republicans on local election boards are busily cutting back early and Sunday voting hours, which are disproportionately used by African Americans.

After the ruling, Democrats raised alarm when the executive director of the state Republican Party emailed GOP activists suggesting each county election board’s Republicans work to limit early voting hours, curtail Sunday voting and avoid placing voting sites on college campuses. This set up a battle over early voting plans in a third of the state’s counties.

Trump Loses His Head in Sarasota http://correctrecord.org/trump-loses-his-head-in-sarasota/ Mon, 07 Nov 2016 17:15:25 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4522 Donald Trump is literally losing his head.

A new spate of reports show a boiling crisis for Trump in his “second home” state. Florida’s Latino voters are heading to the polls in record numbers to repudiate Trump’s years of anti-immigrant, racist rhetoric and his dangerous campaign. And Trump’s offensive closing ad has been widely slammed as anti-Semitic by prominent Jewish groups.

Trump has done little to correct course. This weekend in Tampa, Trump kicked out a twelve-year-old with cerebral palsy from his rally. In Sarasota today, he claimed he would win the Latino vote because “the Cubans gave me the award,” lashed out at the Beyhive (Beyonce fans), admired a mask of his head, and bragged about his southern border wall. Don’t worry, Mexico will pay for it.

What an uplifting closing argument.

CTR Statement on Trump’s Rally in Moon Township, PA http://correctrecord.org/ctr-statement-on-trumps-rally-in-moon-township-pa/ Mon, 07 Nov 2016 04:18:18 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4518 Washington, D.C.–This evening, Correct The Record President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement on Donald Trump’s rally in Moon Township, Pennsylvania:

“In yet another brutal attack on our democracy, Donald Trump tonight disturbingly suggested that ‘rank and file’ FBI agents will go rogue and continue to investigate this closed case. This is an especially disturbing comment considering the fact that Rudy Giuliani has already admitted to having a potentially illegal back channel with FBI agents. Here we are two days out from the election, and instead of coming up with actual solutions for the American people, Trump is spending his time conspiring about a closed case. On Tuesday, voters will choose love over hate and embrace Hillary Clinton’s vision for America over Trump’s pessimism.”

Trump Admits Ernst Turned Down VP Spot http://correctrecord.org/trump-admits-ernst-turned-down-vp-spot/ Sun, 06 Nov 2016 19:09:43 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4512 In Sioux City, Iowa, at Donald Trump’s first of five rallies today, he hinted that Sen. Jackie Ernst turned down the opportunity to run as Trump’s VP, claiming that she felt she “needed a little more seasoning.” But that’s not the only news out today that people close to him are seeking some distance from his dangerous policies and hateful rhetoric. According to a New York Times report, Donald’s own daughter, Ivanka, after sitting for an ad to appeal to suburban women, asked the campaign not to promote the ad because she was worried it would damage her brand.

When members of your own family join members of your political party in keeping their distance from you, you know things aren’t looking good. Sad!

Donald Trump: “And a woman who I got to know, because as you know she was on a very short list, and she loves the people of Iowa. And she felt she needed a little – it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me, she felt she needed a little more seasoning, maybe. And I said, isn’t that refreshing when you hear that from somebody? And she is now seasoned because there’s nobody that does a better job representing their people than Joni Ernst.” [Sioux City Rally, 11/6/2016]

New York Times: Inside Donald Trump’s Last Stand: An Anxious Nominee Seeks Assurance: “His polished older daughter, Ivanka, sat for a commercial intended to appeal to suburban women who have recoiled from her father’s incendiary language. But she discouraged the campaign from promoting the ad in news releases, fearing that her high-profile association with the campaign would damage the businesses that bear her name.”

WATCH: NV GOP Chair Complains Polls Remained Open So “Certain Group Could Vote”; Then Trump Echos Complaint About Turnout http://correctrecord.org/watch-nv-gop-chair-complains-polls-remained-open-so-certain-group-could-vote-then-trump-echos-complaint-about-turnout/ Sun, 06 Nov 2016 01:16:30 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4511 Tonight, one of Donald Trump’s introductory speakers was Nevada GOP Chair Michael J. McDonald, who went after election officials for keeping polling locations open so “a certain group could vote.” Last we checked, all U.S. Citizens had the right to vote. Then, Donald Trump repeated McDonald’s false claim, lying that the system is “rigged” because citizens were allowed to vote.

FULL MCDONALD QUOTE: Nevada GOP Chair Michael J. McDonald: “Last night, in Clark County, they kept a poll open until ten o’clock at night so a certain group could vote. It wasn’t in an area that normally has high transition. The polls are supposed to close at seven. This was open until ten. Yeah, you feel free right now?” Watch here.

FULL TRUMP QUOTE: Donald Trump: “For instance, it’s being reported that certain key Democratic polling locations in Clark County were kept open for hours and hours beyond closing time. To bus and bring Democratic voters in. Folks, it’s a rigged system. It’s a rigged system.”  Watch here.

CTR Statement on Donald Trump’s Wilmington, NC Rally http://correctrecord.org/ctr-statement-on-donald-trumps-wilmington-nc-rally/ Sat, 05 Nov 2016 18:56:08 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4510 Washington, D.C.— Today, Correct The Record President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement on Donald Trump’s rally in Wilmington, North Carolina.

“On an extremely rare occasion, Donald Trump was bizarrely well-behaved at a rally today in North Carolina. By well-behaved, I mean he stuck to his teleprompter script–full of lies, conspiracies and offensive rhetoric. But Donald can’t fool us. Just because he was on his best behavior for his wife, Melania, who joined him on the trail, doesn’t mean we forgot about his record of conning people or didn’t catch his lies about our country’s immigration system, military and working families. The Donald’s entire campaign has been built on lies, and he’s not changing his tune with just three days to go.

Donald Trump’s Freaky Friday http://correctrecord.org/donald-trumps-freaky-friday/ Sat, 05 Nov 2016 01:13:54 +0000 http://correctrecord.org/?p=4507 There’s trouble in Trumpland. With four days until Election Day, the Trump campaign today was plagued by a cascade of negative stories and emerging scandals:

  • The trouble began this morning, with a new report from Newsweek detailing how the Trump campaign’s affection for Kremlin is frightening long-time U.S. allies.

  • Just a few hours later, Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani admitted that he knew about James Comey’s letter to Congress before it went public—raising the specter of possible illegal, politicalized leaks coming out of the FBI. Giuliani has spent the past few hours furiously backtracking.

  • Just before noon, two of Chris Christie’s former aides were found guilty on all counts in the Bridgegate scandal. Christie is the leader of Trump’s transition effort and responsible for hiring for a potential Trump administration. The bombshell convictions have thrown that position into crisis. Christie has already canceled a visit to New Hampshire tomorrow—and it remains to be seen whether Christie will continue to lead the transition effort.

  • As the campaign suffers setback after setback, Trump’s rallies have turned even darker. Tonight in Hershey, Pennsylvania, a rally attendee once again harassed reporters—this time yelling “F*** Jorge Ramos!” Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway was even forced to beg supporters to be “nice nice.” And for the second night in a row, Trump suggested that military officers will not follow orders from Hillary Clinton if she’s elected president.

The hateful rallies, the shady senior advisors, the constant scandals and overtures to the Kremlin all point to a campaign that is literally stumbling to the finish line.
